Student Academic Support

Overview

Student Academic Support is the UT School of Nursing resource for students seeking academic support. Nursing majors receive assistance through Individual Academic Counseling, Academic Peer Tutoring, Study Skills Workshops, and referrals to campus services. A student must be currently enrolled in the UT School of Nursing to be eligible for services provided through the Student Academic Support program.

Services

To obtain any of the following Student Academic Support services, appointments are strongly recommended. Email Diana Flannery, Learning Specialist, to schedule an appointment.

Individual Academic Counseling

Students receive individual assistance with a range of study skills including, but not limited to:

  • Time Management strategies and techniques for effective time management
  • Active Learning strategies and techniques to improve the studying, reading, and retaining of course information
  • Test Taking strategies and techniques to improve test taking
  • Referrals to UT campus resources

Academic Peer Tutoring

Academic peer tutoring is available to undergraduate nursing majors for most prerequisite science and nursing courses and for certain upper division courses. Tutoring sessions focus on determining and meeting specific learning goals and developing good study strategies. Both individual and group tutoring services are available. The tutors are current nursing students who have successfully completed the courses they tutor.

Study Skills Workshops

Study skills workshops designed to improve skills important to academic success are offered throughout the semesters. Topics vary each semester. Email Diana Flannery for further information on topics and availability of workshops.
