Nursing Compliance for New Students

This includes three different courses: American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR, First Aid Certification, and Nurse/Patient Safety. Course consists of lecture, discussions, video demonstrations, safety education & TB testing, and practical work as suggested by OSHA, National Safety Council, and the American Heart Association. These courses are mandatory for all students enrolled in the nursing program at the UT Austin School of Nursing.

Nurse and Patient Safety Certification Course

The safety from workplace-induced injuries and illnesses is important to both nurses and patients. The presence of healthy and well-rested nurses is critical to providing vigilant monitoring, empathic patient care, and vigorous advocacy. Nurse and Patient Safety training will consist of learning the five danger areas that are most common in the healthcare industry. They include musculoskeletal conditions for you and patient handling; needle safety; workplace violence; preventing blood-borne pathogens, such as HIV and Hepatitis; tuberculosis; and other drug resistant organisms, such as MRSA and CDIFF. This course will educate you about these risks, while teaching you how to navigate and manage them to keep the environment safe for everyone.

First-Aid Certification Certification Courses

First-Aid is an instructor-led course that teaches students critical skills needed to respond to and manage an emergency until emergency medical services arrive. Skills covered in this course include first aid skills, infection control, assessing emergencies, using epinephrine pens and inhalers. This course will aid you in promptly recognizing and managing life-threatening emergencies.

American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support - BLS (CPR) Certification Courses

This is a video based course that teaches both single-rescuer and team basic life support skills for application in both prehospital and in-facility environments, with a focus on High-Quality CPR and team dynamics. 100% classroom training means students are with an AHA instructor for their entire learning experience.

Cost: $30 for UT Student and Non-Nursing Faculty & Staff | $50 for Non-UT Participants

First-Aid and Basic Life Support - BLS (CPR) Certification Courses

Heartsaver First-Aid and BLS (CPR) is a video-based, instructor-led course that teaches students critical skills needed to respond to and manage an emergency until emergency medical services arrives. Skills covered in this course include first aid; choking relief in adults, children, and infants; and to promptly recognize a life-threatening emergency, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations, and provide early use of an AED.
