About the Conference

Welcome to Serving Texas Through Health Disparities Research, a research conference presented by St. David’s CHPR. The conference will feature podium presentations by six individuals, renowned for their work in the areas of public health, health disparities and research-based interventions. This daylong event will also include a Poster Presentation session featuring research addressing a wide array of health promotion topics. Click here to learn About St. David's CHPR.

Conference Registration

Online registration starts on January 4, 2012 and closes at noon on March 27, 2012. On-site registration will be available as space allows, but cannot be guaranteed. The last day to cancel your registration and receive a full refund is March 16, 2012. Following this date no refunds will be given.

Registration Costs

  • Early Bird Registration: $35.00 - Register by February 29 to save 30%!
  • General Registration: $50.00 - After February 29, the general registration cost will be $50.
  • Student Registration: $15.00

All rates include continental breakfast and a boxed lunch.

Continuing Education Hours Available

Nurses, Social Workers and Licensed Professional Counselors may earn continuing education contact hours by attending the conference. Those seeking credits must be in attendance for the entirety of the conference.

Five CEU credit hours will be given for participation in the conference after completion of the evaluation form and signature page. The 5 units are for those interested in Nursing or Social Work CEUs.

St. David's Institute for Learning is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Texas Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.

The Office of Professional Development at The University of Texas at Austin School of Social Work is an approved provider of CEUs for licensed social workers and licensed professional counselors.

If you would like to apply for a scholarship, please download and fill out the above form. Email the complete scholarship form to Scholarship applications will be accepted through February 17, and notifications of awards will be made via email by February 24.

Call for Poster Presentations

Poster presentations are invited on topics addressing ANY aspect of health disparities, health promotion, or disease prevention research in underserved populations. Posters may report preliminary results of work in progress. Faculty, community members, graduate and undergraduate students are encouraged to submit abstracts for review. Scholarly presentations consistent with the mission of St. David's CHPR will be selected, and the first author will be notified via email by February 17.

Poster Presenters must Register for Conference
Requirements for submission are as follow:


  • Format: One page, single spaced, Times 11-pt, 1” margins, 500 words maximum (Download & Use Poster Abstract Template - Word Format)
  • Organization: Purpose; Methods; Findings; Conclusions
  • Cover Letter: Request to submit, author(s) name, credentials, affiliation, address, phone, email, where previously presented (if appropriate) and a permission to publish statement as follows:
    • If selected, I agree to present a poster at the CHPR Conference on March 28, 2012. I give permission for the abstract and a photo of the poster to be used for distribution in all forms of media [print, electronic, website, video].
  • First Author: First author can be selected only once; first author will be contact person


  • Format: Maximum size to fit a poster board of 4’ x 8’; tacks will be provided
  • Handouts are optional and must be provided by the author (25 copies suggested)
