Posted: Feb. 26, 2010
Dr. Debbie Volker, associate professor of nursing, has received the 2010 Senate Professor of the Year Award from University of Texas at Austin students. The award is given to a tenure or tenure-track professor who demonstrates outstanding teaching ability and a commitment to students and the university.
Volker will receive $1000, and will be recognized at the Texas vs. Oklahoma men’s basketball game Monday, March 1st.
"Dr. Volker makes students believe that there is always something more that you can reach for, and that there are no limits to what can be accomplished, even as a student,” said Lauren Ratliff, president of the Senate of College Councils.
“She has a true passion for nursing, and she wants to share it with others. She gives her whole heart to her work as a researcher and nurse educator, and this has made all the difference in the lives of her patients and students."
Ratliff added that Volker has proved her value to the university and the School of Nursing by mentoring first-time undergraduate researchers and showing interest in the progress of all her students.
“She is well-known for her research in the cancer nursing community, but still shows outstanding devotion to students by being available to them on Saturdays and over the holidays,” said Ratliff.
The School of Nursing likes to congratulate Dr. Volker for this honor.
