School of Nursing Ceremony Information

The School of Nursing Fall 2012 Commencement is scheduled for Saturday, December 8, 2012, at 9:00am. in Bass Concert Hall. Degree candidates should arrive promptly at 8:30 a.m. to allow adequate time for ceremony preparation. Tickets are not required for family or guests.  The ceremony is expected to last 90 minutes.

Commencement Speaker

Toni Inglis, MSN, RN, CNS, FAAN, a clinical nurse specialist in Community Health, holds three degrees from from The University of Texas at Austin — a Bachelor of Arts (in Spanish and French), a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master of Science in Nursing. She was one of 10 graduate students selected to study policy development under the late Congresswoman Barbara Jordan at the LBJ School of Public Affairs in Austin.

In 1992, she was selected as the Outstanding Graduating Graduate Student by the UT-Austin School of Nursing, and in 1995 as the school’s Outstanding Alumna of the Year.

Inglis has practiced neonatal intensive care nursing for more than three decades. She is also a medical writer known for her ability to explain complex health issues and policy in easily understood terms.

In addition to editing a monthly nursing publication and blog for the Seton Healthcare Family, she is a regular opinion contributor to the Austin American-Statesman. Her columns, numbering upward of 100, concern health policy, health care, nursing, humor and politics and have been published in many newspapers and scholarly journals.

A passionate advocate for public health and mental health, Inglis has served on numerous commissions and boards. She served for 12 years as a member of the Board of Trustees of Austin Travis County Integral Care, formerly Austin Travis County Mental Health Mental Retardation.


All UT parking garages will be free and open to the public on Saturday, 12/8. The San Jacinto Garage (2401 San Jacinto) and Manor Garage (2017 Robert Dedman Dr) are near Bass Concert Hall. Parking is also unrestricted in all “C” lots on these days. Disabled parking is available along the east side of Robert Dedman Drive. Please allow adequate time for parking. Academic Regalia

Academic regalia required: Caps and gowns can be obtained from the University Co-op. The Graduation Department will open Wednesday October 3, 2012. Complete information on purchase or rental of caps and gowns is available on the University Co-op website. On the left side of this webpage, click on Graduation.

PhD regalia:

  • October 3rd- 5th: Doctoral Regalia SALE - students and faculty may purchase their doctoral regalia at COST these three days only. (Discount of 28%).
  • October 12th:  Doctoral purchase deadline -- for both Faculty and Students.
  • November 2nd: Last day to RENT doctoral (and faculty) regalia.
     **Note! The Faculty Loaner regalia that the Office of Relationship Management coordinates does not include a doctoral hood, so if faculty would like a hood, they must place a rental order by this date to avoid a rush fee.
  • Doctoral rentals and purchases have a wide variety of price ranges. They can choose between the orange UT Official doctoral regalia set or a traditional black style. For pricing and more information please visit the University Co-op Graduation Dept. website.
    **All Doctoral Rental orders should be placed online before 11/2/12 at the link above.

Masters regalia:

  • Purchase is $64.99 for the cap, gown, tassel and hood.
  • November 23rd: Last day for Masters Students to purchase regalia.

BSN regalia:

  • Purchase is $55.99 for the cap, gown, stole and tassel.
  • November 30th: Last day for Bachelors Students to purchase regalia.

Invitations: We have a wide variety of package sizes, students may purchase personalized invitations as low as $15.00 for a set of 10. Turn-around time is 2-5 business days. We recommend students send invitations out to arrive at least 2 weeks prior to the ceremony.

Locations: Students may shop online at the University Co-op website, or they may visit one of the following stores:

*Please note, Doctoral candidates should visit the Main Store location only.

Commencement Weekend: The Co-op Graduation Department will be open early (at least an hour before the ceremonies
begin) on graduation weekend - if anyone has lost an item or forgotten something, the Co-op will be open.

  • Students may use their Co-op rebate cards toward their purchases (including online orders).
  • Bachelors and Masters Students must purchase their set of regalia (as designed by the University). Rentals are not available, except for faculty and doctorates.
  • Doctoral Rentals must be ordered online and picked up at the Main Co-op.

Photography: A photographer will be at the ceremony to take pictures of each candidate as Dean Stuifbergen congratulates them. A card will be given to you to fill out for the announcement of your name. The photography company will also use the card to mail your photo and you will be given the opportunity at that time to make a purchase if you choose.

Special Assistance for Graduates & Guests

The staff at Bass Concert Hall is prepared to make accommodations for all graduates and/or guests needing special assistance. Guests with mobility impairments should enter through the southeast front entrance of the Concert Hall (there is a ramp at this entrance) and should arrive by 11:00 a.m. A house manager will admit and seat these guests before the lobby opens. Special seating can be designated for guests in need of assistance.
