The Interprofessional Education Initiative at the University of Texas presents "Effectively Facilitating Interprofessional Student Groups"

Guest Speaker: Brenda K. Zierler Ph.D., R.N., FAAN

Description: Please join us for lunch followed by a faculty development program by national IPE expert, Dr. Brenda Zierler, on Effectively Facilitating Interprofessional Student Groups. This event is open at no cost to health professions faculty and stakeholders.

The faculty development program will address:

  • national interprofessional (IPE) initiatives;
  • rationale for collaborative IPE practice in the context of health care reform; and
  • skills faculty need to facilitate IPE student groups and activities.
Guest Speaker Dr. Brenda K. Zierler

Dr. Brenda K. Zierler

About the Guest Speaker: Dr. Zierler’s research explores the relationships between the delivery of health care and outcomes—at both the patient and system level. Her primary appointment is Professor in the School of Nursing at the University of Washington, but she holds three adjunct appointments – two in the School of Medicine and one in the School of Public Health. She is the Inaugural UW Health Science’s IPE Faculty Scholar (2013-2015). Dr. Zierler was Co-PI (with Leslie Hall, MD) of a Josiah Macy Foundation grant focused on faculty development for IPE and collaborative practice. She currently leads two HRSA training grants - one focusing on faculty development in the use of technology across a 5-state collaborative and the second grant focusing on technology enhanced IPE for advanced practice students. She is Co-Director (with Nanci Murphy, PharmD) for the UW Center for Health Sciences Interprofessional Education, Practice and Research and Associate Director of the UW Institute for Simulation and Interprofessional Studies (ISIS) in the School of Medicine. Dr. Zierler is a Board Member of the American Interprofessional Health Collaborative and the incoming Chair (2014-2015). Dr. Zierler is also a member of the IOM Global Forum on Innovation in Health Professional Education.

Parking: Limited parking will be available at the Frank Erwin Center in lot 108, for those with a current UT permit. This lot is located at the corner of 15th St. and Red River. Self-parking is available in Trinity Garage for a fee. Trinity Garage is located at the intersection of Trinity and MLK Metered on-street parking may also be available on Red River.
