Alumni association honors UT Austin School of Nursing student

Laurann Hofweber, a student at The University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing, has received the Edith Huck Turner Memorial Nursing Scholarship, which is presented by the Brackenridge Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association.

Hofweber was one of ten students from Texas State University, Austin Community College and UT Austin to receive the $1,000 scholarship this year.

Jonas Scholar and doctoral student receives fellowship

Ashley Henneghan has received the 2014–15 Promise of Nursing for Texas Regional Faculty Fellowship.

The fellowship is available for registered nurses holding a baccalaureate degree in nursing who are enrolled in a graduate-level nursing program. The honor includes $5,000, which is to be used for education-related expenses.

Nursing student elected to Junior Fellows Program

Kaitlin Elise Galloway was selected for The University of Texas at Austin College of Liberal Arts Junior Fellows Program.

The Junior Fellows Program provides recognition for outstanding students who have completed four semesters, or approximately 60 semester hours of coursework. Chosen annually from the best students across the campus, junior fellows are given the opportunity to participate in independent study and research with distinguished professors of their choice.

The program is administered by the College of Liberal Arts, but undergraduates in all colleges and schools are eligible to take part.

Doctoral student named Johns Hopkins postdoctoral fellow

Janiece Walker has been accepted as a postdoctoral fellow at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing Center for Innovative Care in Aging. After completing her dissertation this summer, she will work with Dr. Sara Szanton to develop programs, policies, practices and tools to help diverse older adults and family members remain independent.

Janiece was mentored by Dr. Tracie Harrison, associate professor at the UT Austin School of Nursing and a fellow of the Administration on Aging.

Student receives prestigious scholarship

Ellen Martin received the American Society for Quality Florence Nightingale Scholarship. In addition to the $2,000 scholarship, she will receive funds for travel expenses and a complimentary registration for the 2014 World Conference on Quality and Improvement.

Study abroad scholarship recipients include nursing student

Liana Lo Chau received one of two $1,000 study abroad scholarships from the Phi Kappa Phi Honors Society. The scholarship will fund her participation in a nutrition program in Cape Town, South Africa.

Meet the School of Nursing’s two latest Jonas Scholars

Doctoral candidates Ashley Henneghan and Megan Pfitzinger Lippe were named Jonas Scholars for 2014–2015.

The Jonas Nurse Leader Scholars at the UT Austin School of Nursing were made possible by a grant from the Jonas Center for Nursing and Veterans Healthcare, a scholarship program dedicated to building the effectiveness of America’s professional nurses. PhD student Eduardo Chavez was named a Jonas Scholar for 2013–2014.
