Forum to promote health equity in Central Texas

The University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing and School of Social Work hosted a forum on March 29 at Huston-Tillotson University to promote health equity in Central Texas. Approximately 100 participants attended the event, which focused on community-led solutions to health disparities. The forum was held in a “talk-show” format with Shannon Jones, director of the Austin/Travis County Health and Human Services Department as moderator. Mr. Jones opened with a brief overview of upstream solutions to promote health equity in Central Texas, the City of Austin equity tool, and other efforts to eradicate institutionalized racism. He then posed a series of questions to members of the panel, who provided solution-focused strategies.
