The Student Community of Asian Nurses (SCAN) is an organization for students striving to become healthcare professionals. SCAN aims to foster a community in which aspiring healthcare professionals can share their stories and provide support for one another. Though focused on nursing, SCAN is open to all who hope to pursue a career beyond a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing. SCAN is also dedicated to helping our local community through volunteering and public health. We work closely with professors and other UT organizations to give back to our community and be leaders in making it a better and healthier place.

Our Mission

  • Create an environment where all students can share their stories, thoughts, and ideas of what it means to be a nurse. We provide support for students and share advice on how to make it through any academic troubles.
  • Foster friendships with fellow nursing students through meetings and socials.
  • Create relationships with UT faculty and members of other UT organizations.
  • Give back to our community through volunteer services in order to make it a better and healthier place.

If you want to be part of a small, friendly community at The University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing, SCAN is the place to be. Scan is open to all backgrounds and is all about bringing people together among their similarities and differences, who dedicate part of their time to the field of nursing, much like the rest of the UT Austin School of Nursing. Volunteering, socials, and workshops are some of the ways we get to know each other better, educate ourselves, and help out the community. We hope to see you around!
