LaTashia Kiel is a master’s prepared registered nurse who has taken an active role in saving the lives of many Americans at the Level 1 trauma center in Central Texas, University Medical Center at Brackenridge (UMCB), soon to be known as Dell Seton Medical Center, since 2007. A twice graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, Kiel received a bachelor’s degree in Nursing and went on to further her nursing education with a Master’s degree in Adult Health with a Focus on Teaching. Through her seven year career at UMCB, LaTashia has worked hard to learn all she could to help her patients, family members, and friends to achieve optimal health. She strongly believes that, “As Christians we are saved to serve, love, and have mercy on others.” She takes her job seriously and is often praised by her co-workers as someone who goes beyond the call of duty for others.
LaTashia married George Kiel in April 2012 and immediately fell in love with his family, including George’s lovely mother, Debra. Her untimely death devastated everyone and forced LaTashia to take on the role she has grown to love, nurse, friend, caregiver, with her own loved ones. While helping her own family cope with the trauma of losing its matriarch, she encouraged her husband to pursue his dream of hosting a basketball tournament about sneakers. She knew that through this event he could raise awareness about the disease, help others proactively care for their bodies, and teach the masses to avoid the deadly prognosis. This event birthed the Kiel Colon Cancer Foundation that Kiel spends the majority of her free time managing.
LaTashia is currently Vice President of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society Epsilon Theta Chapter, Co-Founder and Director of Operations of the Kiel Colon Cancer Foundation and Kick & Roll Classic, and Leader of a Greater Mount Zion Marriage Ministry Prayer Circle. She and her husband welcomed their first daughter on Christmas Eve 2015.
