The UT Austin School of Nursing will host a memorial lecture in honor of Dean Emerita Sands on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 10–11:30 a.m. Bernadette Melnyk, Dean of The Ohio State University College of Nursing, will present “Evidence-based Practice Plus Clinician Well-being to Reach the Quadruple Aim in Healthcare: Key tactics for success.”

Carol Delville, PhD, RN, ACNS-BC, clinical assistant professor; and Stephanie Morgan, PhD, RN, FNP-BC, clinical professor and director of practice innovation, the UT Austin School of Nursing, have received the 2019 Good Samaritan Foundation Excellence in Nursing Bronze Awards.

Jean C. McSweeney, RN, PhD (1990), FAHA, FAAN, will present “Matters of the Heart: A Research Journey Uncovering Signs of Heart Disease in Women" at the 2019 NINR Director's Lecture in Bethesda, Maryland on September 17 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. ET.

Since its inception, students of the psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) program at UT Austin School of Nursing have received a 100 percent pass rate on the American Nurses Credentialing Center board certification exams, the only board-certified exam in the nation.

Annette B. Wysocki, PhD (1986), RN, FAAN, has been named Dean of the Stony Brook University School of Nursing. She received a doctorate in nursing from the University of Texas at Austin in 1986.

Hsiu-Hung Wang, PhD (1998), RN, FAAN, has received the Founders Award ― Mary Tolle Wright Award for Excellence in Leadership for her extraordinary contributions to nursing.

A one-year, $250,000 grant was awarded to The University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing by the Houston-based Episcopal Health Foundation to conduct a community-centric needs assessment inclusive of social determinants of health.

Two UT Austin School of Nursing faculty members will be inducted into the 2019 class of fellows of the American Academy of Nursing. Karen Johnson, PhD, RN, associate professor; and Julie Zuñiga, PhD, RN, assistant professor, are among 231 highly distinguished nurse leaders to be inducted during the AAN policy conference in Washington, D.C., October 26, 2019.

Cara Young, PhD, RN, FNP-C, assistant professor, was inducted into the Fellows of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (FAANP).

In east Austin live a largely unknown refugee population who fled their native Burma (also referred to as Myanmar) several years ago, forced to leave because of persecution by the ruling parties in their homeland.
