Nursing Students

About the Camp

The primary purpose for the Longhorn Nursing Immersion Summer Camp is to introduce teens to the healthcare profession by increasing their knowledge and understanding in the field of nursing. This will be accomplished by using a combination of nurse teaching and learning methods that include hands on skills, immersive virtual reality, mentoring, presentations, and behind the scenes field trips designed to expose students to the wide variety of nursing opportunities. The week will combine learning and social activities designed to foster a sense of community in nursing.

Daily Activities:

  • Learn about nursing from current students.
  • Explore nursing skills such as assessing patients, vital signs, and using EHR Charts.
  • Interact with human patient simulators, virtual reality skills, and participate in escape rooms.
  • Visit a local hospital and clinic.
  • Complete an American Heart Association CPR and First Aid course.
  • Gain insight into The University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing Program.
