About the Camp

The Longhorn Nursing Immersion Summer Camp is a great opportunity for high school students interested in a health care career to immerse themselves in hands-on activities that are taught to current Texas Nursing students and provide them with a preview into the training required to become a Registered Nurse. The week-long camp will combine additional learning and social activities designed to foster a sense of community with fellow campers interested in someday becoming a nurse and an important role in the health care profession.
Daily Activities:
- Learn about nursing from and participate in nursing school skills with UT Austin School of Nursing faculty and current students.
- Explore nursing through classroom and simulation lab activities, such as assessing patients, vital signs, and using EHR Charts. Interact with human patient simulators, virtual reality, and participate in nursing skills; including basic & advanced patient care, medication administration, maternity & newborn simulation, and participate in an emergency preparedness drill.
- Interact with human patient simulators, virtual reality, and participate in nursing skills escape rooms.
- Visit a local hospital, clinic, and tour the UT campus.
- Complete and receive certification in an American Heart Association Basic Life Support and First Aid course.
Camp Rules and Regulations
Important Items to Know (Arrival and Departure Policies, Parking, Medication Policy, and Meal Plan)

Camps are day camps only. No overnight accommodations are available.
Arrival and departure must be arranged by the participants. Mandatory arrival area and departure is located in Lot 118 (red section on the map - corner of MLK and IH35 access road). Camp counselors will greet campers on the sidewalk next to John Hargis Hall (John W. Hargis Hall, 1823 Red River St, Austin, TX 78701, View JHH Map) and walk to the Nursing School together as a group when all campers are accounted for.
Departure Policy: Only those listed on the camp registration can claim their child. If a family member or neighbor other than the parent is allowed to pick up the camper, this name and information must be listed on the registration prior to the beginning of camp. Parent must show ID to camp counselor upon departure before camper can be released from camp.
Self-Driver: Parking is available for a fee (validation will not be provided) in Trinity Garage (TRG) or Health Center Garage (HCG), both located on Trinity St. View parking garages at UT Austin.
Medication Policy: Please read this policy thoroughly on the camp registration. If campers arrive on campus with medication not listed on their registration and is not logged in properly, a parent will be called and the camper will be removed from camp permanently – no refunds will be provided.
Meals: Campers will be provided morning snacks, lunch, and beverages. Due to the level of immersion our campers will be involved in, it’s imperative that the camper eat a healthy/hearty breakfast to decrease the chances of feeling faint. Most high-fidelity nursing skills will take place after lunch, but campers will be introduced to medical terminology and supplies earlier in the day.

Sponsors
Thank you in advance for your consideration to sponsor the 2025 Longhorn Nursing Immersion Summer Camp. Your donation is extremely important and greatly appreciated.
Many families in our community are not able to cover the cost of camp tuition ($650.00) for their student. To provide a low-to-no cost tuition option for low-income students, we are asking for your support to meet our fundraising goal of $2,500.
Sponsors like you can help "Heal the World" with a small donation to further the education of a camper and future Texas Nursing student!
Scholarship
The Longhorn Nursing Immersion Summer Camp offers a limited number of scholarships each year to the campers based on their need, availability of funds, and camper aspirations of becoming a future nurse/healthcare professional. Scholarships are limited and only partial tuition may be awarded to the camper based on need. We encourage all applicants to search out additional payment options (grandparents, family members, and friends) to cover the remainder of tuition if only partial tuition is covered.
A scholarship application will be available to applicants on the date camp registration opens. Please read the requirements carefully and submit all paperwork as requested in a timely manner to be considered for a scholarship.
