Biography and Research Area: Dr. Kaitlyn Swinney obtained her doctoral degree at the University of Minnesota in Kinesiology, with an emphasis in exercise psychology and health promotion through an equity lens. Dr. Swinney’s dissertation was a home-based strength training randomized controlled trial for Black women that focused on accessibility to increase physical activity and improve scores on relevant psychosocial measures grounded in theory. She previously received her MA in General Experimental Psychology from California State Northridge and her BA in Psychology from Rice University. She is currently working in Dr. Hoelscher’s research lab, which looks at infrastructure and community constructs on active commuting and physical activity for school children in low-income communities. Her program of research is community-based behavioral programs as a protective factor against non-communicable diseases for minoritized women and children.
