Biography

Dr. Eduardo C. Chávez is a Clinical Assistant Professor at The University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing. He earned both his Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Science in Nursing, with a concentration in Nursing Administration and Healthcare Systems Management, from UT Austin. He brings over 18 years of nursing experience to his academic role, primarily in pediatrics with a focus on emergency care. Prior to joining the faculty in 2019, he held leadership roles managing and supervising pediatric emergency departments in Austin, experiences that continue to inform his teaching and scholarly work. At UT Austin, Dr. Chávez teaches didactic and clinical pediatric nursing courses in the AE MSN program and serves as the Facilitator for the Child Health Nursing Practicum course. He also leads an annual pediatric palliative care seminar focused on advocacy, interdisciplinary care, and family centered perspectives. His research has examined clinical leadership among staff nurses in hospital acute care settings, with additional research interests in exploring AI enabled tools to support interventions for the prevention and treatment of childhood obesity. Complementing his research, his academic and teaching interests include advancing pediatric palliative care education and the integration of AI into healthcare systems and operations. Dr. Chávez is a recipient of the Jonas Nurse Leaders Scholar Award and is committed to student mentorship.
