Biography
Dr. Hamilton-Solum is a clinical assistant professor at The University of Texas School of Nursing at Austin, where she has taught students in clinical nursing practice, multidisciplinary inter-professional collaborative practice education (IPE) and nursing skills courses since 2008. Her professional nursing practice experience also includes acute care clinical quality improvement, and community childbirth preparation, lactation consultant parent education, and NICU nursing. Her passion for perinatal health and lactation support began as a community clinic volunteer and educator, and continued as a NICU nurse. Her dissertation work is focused on breastfeeding mothers employed outside of the home and she participates in multiple evidence-based projects related to perinatal, newborn and global health. Dr. Hamilton-Solum has held International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certification since 2013 and is an active member of The International Lactation Consultants Association (ILCA) and the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nursing (AWHONN). Her work in international perinatal and newborn health education also includes global health classroom projects at UT Austin.
