Biography

Shannon Mickelson is a Registered Nurse and Clinical Instructor at The University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing. Originally from New Orleans, Louisiana, she earned her BSN from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center and her MSN in Nursing Administration from the University of Texas at Arlington. 

Mickelson began her nursing career at Ochsner Medical Center and later worked as a travel RN in acute care float pools across the country, including assignments at Massachusetts General Hospital. She spent 17 years as a PACU nurse at St. David’s South Austin Medical Center before serving in clinical leadership and nursing education roles, including Clinical Director at St. David’s North Austin Surgery Center and Clinical Learning Lab Manager at Galen College of Nursing. 

She currently serves as an Elementary School Registered Nurse with Austin Independent School District while teaching part-time at UT Austin. Her professional interests include nursing education, clinical practice, leadership, and supporting students as they develop the knowledge, confidence, and critical-thinking skills needed to provide compassionate, high-quality patient care.
