Community Health Worker Receives SON Star Award for Texas Nursing Staff

Jesus Ybarra, a community health worker at The University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing’s Children’s Wellness Center, received the SON Star Award in May 2024. 

This award is granted to a UT Austin School of Nursing staff member who demonstrates a commitment to the goals and values of the University and the School. 

As a community health worker, Jesus provides families and individuals essential services through the UT Social Resource Center. The services provided to the community include promoting healthy living practices, educational materials, benefit application assistance or information, and access to our food pantry and clothing closet. He also communicates and coordinates with partners to assist in bringing more services to the community. 

Jesus is known for fostering collaboration, communication and cooperation in his work and serving community members. He’s also known for exemplifying empathy, compassion and servant leadership.
