The University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing provided Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider certification to eighteen attendees at the Quality in Long Term Care Conference (QLTCC), held at the Renaissance Hotel in Austin on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2025.

The session, led by Deanna Baker, LEAP Training and Special Projects Director for the UT Austin School of Nursing’s American Heart Association Training Center, offered hands-on instruction and skills review in adult and infant CPR. This initiative reflects the School of Nursing’s ongoing commitment to advancing health care education and supporting excellence in long-term care.

“This initiative is important to the School of Nursing because it reflects the School’s ongoing commitment to advancing health care education and supporting excellence in long-term care—particularly for professionals whose employers may not offer certification opportunities,” Baker said. “By offering BLS certification in this setting, the School of Nursing is expanding access to essential training for long-term care providers, directly investing in community health and workforce readiness.”

A dedicated team of BLS instructors, including several School of Nursing staff and alumni, contributed their time and expertise to ensure a high-quality learning experience.

Their collaboration exemplifies the strength of the School of Nursing’s instructional network and its alignment with community and professional development goals. Through initiatives like this, the School continues to cultivate skilled and confident health care professionals who are ready to make a positive impact in long-term care settings.
