Faculty members at The University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing have recently received regional and international recognition for their contributions to nursing science, leadership and service, reflecting the UT Austin School of Nursing’s continued impact on health care and nursing scholarship.

John Lowe, PhD, RN, FAAN, Joseph Blades Centennial Memorial Professor in Nursing, has been selected to receive the Southern Nursing Research Society (SNRS) Research in Empathetic Care for Populations with Distinct Healthcare Needs Award. The award will be formally presented at the SNRS 2026 Annual Conference, to be held in Austin, Texas.

This prestigious honor recognizes nursing researchers whose work demonstrates a deep commitment to empathetic, culturally responsive care for populations with distinct or underserved health care needs.

In addition, Lowe has been selected for induction as a Fellow in the International Academy of Addictions Nursing (FIAAN) through the International Nurses Society of Addiction (IntNSA). Fellowship status is among the organization’s highest honors and is awarded to nurse leaders who have made significant and sustained contributions to addiction nursing through research, practice and education.

The induction ceremony will take place at the IntNSA Annual Conference in April in Seattle, Washington.

Alexa Stuifbergen, PhD, RN, FAAN, James R. Dougherty Jr. Centennial Professor Professor, was selected to receive the SNRS Research in Nursing and Health (RINAH) Award, which honors distinguished nursing scholars whose programs of research have had a lasting impact on nursing science and health outcomes.

These recognitions highlight the excellence of the faculty at the School of Nursing and their ongoing commitment to advancing compassionate, evidence-based care.
