PhD students Martha Brown and Amy Patten from The University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing have been recognized among the 2024-26 class of Jonas Scholars by Jonas Nursing and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing. Their scholar focus area is in underserved populations. This distinguished cohort includes 63 doctoral students from 25 states.
Since its inception in 2008, the Jonas Scholars program has been the flagship initiative of Jonas Nursing. The program's mission is to elevate the nursing profession by cultivating nurse leaders who will address the nursing shortage through education and by investing in the health and well-being of underserved communities.
The Jonas Scholars program is dedicated to enhancing healthcare by increasing the number of PhD and DNP-prepared nurses who are essential for educating future nurse leaders. It offers financial support, a leadership and learning curriculum and networking opportunities to strengthen the pipeline of nurse educators.
Additionally, the program is instrumental in tackling the nation's nursing faculty shortage, a major obstacle to expanding the capacity of nursing schools.
