Required Actions for Grant Application Preparation

If you are considering submitting a grant application, you must inform Cindy Taylor in advance. Below are the minimum lead time for notification, depending on the type of sponsor or funding opportunity.

Sponsor & Notification Lead Times

Sponsor/FunderMinimum Time to Inform Prior to Sponsor Deadline
NIH Grants/Agreements6 weeks — especially important if subawards are involved. If there are no subawards, and the proposal is not complex, 4 weeks may be sufficient.
Other Federal Grants/Agreements6 weeks — or more advance notice may be needed especially if non-PHS or a complex application.
State and City Grants/Contracts4–6 weeks
Private Foundations4 weeks — please note that the Development Office must be notified and may need to be involved throughout the proposal development process.
Small Grants from Private Funders3 weeks — only if they do not involve the Development Office (e.g., most private grants under $15,000 total)
Incoming Subawards3 weeks — prior to the Prime Applicant’s internal deadline.

Optional Support Services

Data Analysis Support

If you need data analysis support, you must initiate consultation with the Center for Applied Data Science (CADS) at least 4 to 6 weeks prior to the internal deadline.

Scientific Feedback

If you would like feedback regarding your grant’s science, you must send your draft aims and research strategy to Dr. Shelli Kesler at least 4 weeks prior to the internal deadline. It is recommended to send your draft aims as early as possible.

Editorial Review

If you need editorial review, you may send Dr. John Bellquist draft sections as you complete them, but no less than 2 weeks prior to the internal deadline.
