Shalonda E. Horton, PhD, MSN, BSN

AMEN Director 
Clinical Assistant Professor

Dr. Shalonda Horton has been a faculty member at the University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing since 2006, teaching courses in public health nursing, global health, health policy, and clinical skills. She brings extensive clinical experience and over 20 years of military nursing service, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. Her research uses community-based participatory approaches to examine physical and mental health promotion, with a focus on faith-based settings.

Ana Todd, PhD, RN

AMEN Co-Director 
Clinical Associate Professor 

Dr. Ana Todd received her BA in Psychology from College of the Holy Cross, a BSN from Fitchburg State University, and her PhD in Nursing from The University of Texas at Austin. Her area of research is health promotion in faith-based settings for various populations to improve mental health and physical health outcomes especially the African American population.

Tiffany Ewere

AMEN Project Manager

Ms. Ewere has served as the Program Manager for the AMEN Project since 2019, leading community outreach, health education initiatives, grant management, compliance, and the development of community partnerships. She is passionate about advancing mental health, public health, and chronic disease prevention within the community. Ms. Ewere earned her Master of Public Health in Epidemiology from The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston in 2023.

Angela Bigham

Community Health Worker

As a Community Health Worker, Ms. Bigham serves as a Health Professional, leading community outreach efforts focused on health education, disease prevention, and access to care. She has coordinated health screenings, educational programs, mental health referrals, and partnerships with community organizations, while serving as a liaison between the UT School of Nursing and local faith-based organizations to provide health resources and support to their communities.

Kiounis Williams

Community Health Worker

As a Community Health Worker and Health Advocate, Mr. Williams supports the AMEN Project by connecting individuals and families with health resources, leading community outreach efforts, and promoting disease prevention through health education. Through the Movement Is Medicine fitness program, he uses exercise to improve mental health, reduce chronic disease risk, and empower communities with practical strategies for lifelong wellness.

Barbara Jackson Poe

Lay Health Worker

As a Lay Health Worker, Ms. Poe assists with a variety of community health initiatives, including the Faith Community Garden Program and the Movement is Medicine Program. She also helps with outreach activities and events all focused on promoting health, wellness, and access to resources while building meaningful relationships within the community.
