The Luci Baines Johnson and Ian J. Turpin Center (Johnson-Turpin Center) for Gerontological Nursing was established at The University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing in September 2022 to recognize and honor the generous gifts and advocacy from Ms. Luci Baines Johnson and Mr. Ian J. Turpin in support of gerontological studies and related areas at the School of Nursing.
Ms. Luci Baines Johnson has been a long-time friend of The University of Texas at Austin and the School of Nursing. Her many years of service as an advocate for Texas Nurses and the important role they play in our Nation’s and State’s health have been part of her and her family’s many contributions to our institution. Mr. Turpin’s role as an advocate for the care of our community’s older adults has been equally important. Together, Ms. Johnson and Mr. Turpin have provided a strong and consistent voice to support those who wish to age with grace and dignity and the nurses' work to support community-based aging and health.
