Kavita Radhakrishnan, PhD, MSEE, RN, FAAN

Associate Director of Johnson-Turpin Center for Gerontological Nursing and Associate Professor in the School of Nursing, Dr. Radhakrishnan’s research applies current and emerging technologies such as telemonitoring, connected sensors, and digital gaming to facilitate chronic disease self-management. The long-term goal of her research is to develop affordable and scalable health interventions that enable ‘aging in place’. Dr.Radhakrishnan's research projects studying digital games for self-management in adults with cardiovascular diseases have been funded for over $6.8 million by the National Institute of Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, and the National Institute of Nursing Research at the National Institutes of Health. These trials aim to address health disparities in heart failure in southern U.S. as well as in hypertension outcomes among Native Americans. Katherine Carroll Britt, PhD, MSN, RN

Assistant Director of Johnson-Turpin Center for Gerontological Nursing 

Assistant Director of Johnson-Turpin Center for Gerontological Nursing and a T32 Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Biobehavioral Health at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing in the NewCourtland Center for Transitions and Health, Dr. Britt’s graduated with her PhD from The University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing and her MSN in Informatics, Quality, and Safety from the University of Texas at Tyler. Her research focuses on identifying resilience factors (i.e., spirituality and religion) for cognitive and brain health in older adults to inform culturally inclusive spiritual interventions for persons with dementia, mild cognitive impairment, and their caregivers to reduce disparities and slow decline. Dr. Britt has over twenty years of clinical nursing experience, including care management and gerontology.

Angelica Rangel, MS

Project Manager of Johnson-Turpin Center for Gerontological Nursing

Project Manager of Johnson-Turpin Center for Gerontological Nursing and Clinical Study Coordinator and Project Manager for Dr. Radhakrishnan’s Digital Heart Health studies, Angelica Rangel received her MS in Clinical Psychology with a Neuropsychology concentration from The University of Texas at Tyler and her BA from St. Edward’s University. She has been involved in research focused on improving sleep in older adults with mild cognitive impairment diagnosed with sleep apnea, decreasing nighttime agitation in older adults with dementia diagnosed with Restless Legs syndrome, and improving self-management behaviors in adults with cardiovascular disease. Ms. Rangel’s leadership in research studies focuses on benefitting the older adult community including translation with diverse populations.
