AHA Heartsaver First-Aid Certification

Due to ongoing Covid19 and campus restrictions, we have modified our BLS and First Aid classes to reflect the recommendations of the American Heart Association (AHA) and community policy. The classes have been set up to reflect the recommendations and shortened for our health & safety. These restrictions include:

  • Limit classroom census to recommended official room capacity
  • Avoid Close Contact (6ft) and limit interaction between students
  • Face masks must be worn at all times
  • Wash hands and cover sneezes/coughs – use hand sanitizer regularly
  • Adhere to AHA Covid19 classroom recommendations – No pocket masks and 1-1 checks
  • If you are sick – don’t come to class

American Heart Association (AHA) Heartsaver First-Aid is a video based and instructor-led course that teaches nursing students critical skills needed to respond to and manage an emergency until emergency medical services arrive. Skills covered in this course include first aid skills, infection control, assessing emergencies, using epinephrine pens and inhalers. This course will aid you in promptly recognizing and managing life-threatening emergencies.​

Classes: Summer classes are available by request. Please reach out to BLSClasses@nursing.utexas.edu to schedule AHA Heartsaver First Aid class.

STEP 1 – SIGN UP: Participants must first check the upcoming class schedule and secure your spot by enrolling in the class.

NOTE: You are not guaranteed a spot in class until payment for registration has been submitted (step 2). If payment is not submitted upon registration, you will be dropped from the class. (Invoiced participants are exempt.) A cancellation fee of $10 will be charged to those who fail to attend a class unless prior notification has been given.

*UT School of Nursing reserves the right to cancel a class with less than 5 participants registered. An email will be sent to those on the roster 24 hours before the class is cancelled.
