AHA Heartsaver First-Aid Certification

American Heart Association (AHA) Heartsaver First-Aid is an instructor-led course that teaches nursing students critical skills needed to respond to and manage a basic first aid emergency until the arrival of emergency medical services. Skills covered in this course include first aid skills, infection control, assessing emergencies, using epinephrine pens and inhalers. This course will aid you in promptly recognizing and managing life-threatening emergencies.

Topics Include:

  • First aid fundamentals and response strategies, medical emergencies such as heart attack and stroke, Injury emergencies including bleeding, sprains, and broken bones.
  • Environmental emergencies like heatstroke, hypothermia, and bites.
  • Preventing illness and injury in everyday settings.

Recommended CPR Classroom Guidelines:

  • Must be 18yrs + to attend class – parent or guardian attendance is required if under 18.
  • Face masks are recommended but not required during class.
  • Wash hands and cover sneezes/coughs – use hand sanitizer regularly.
  • If you are sick – do not come to class.

IMPORTANT NOTES: 

Upon entering the UT School of Nursing building, please be prepared to present your UT ID, driver’s license, or another valid form of identification to the attending security guard for verification. Individuals who do not have or refuse to show identification will not be permitted to attend class. Once your identification has been verified, please sign in on the daily roster, and proceed to the assigned classroom.

*UT School of Nursing reserves the right to cancel a class with less than 5 participants registered. An email will be sent to those on the roster 24 hours before the class is cancelled.
