Additional Costs
- Liability Insurance Coverage (Required) - Students must show evidence of student liability insurance when enrolled in off-campus practicum courses. Students are charged $15 per year to maintain liability insurance coverage throughout the five semesters of the program.
- Textbooks and Course Materials (Required) – Program tuition and fees do not cover textbooks and some course materials.
- Travel and Accommodation (Varies by Student) - The DNP program is delivered in a hybrid (online/on-campus) format. Students must come to campus once a month for two consecutive days, typically a Friday and Saturday. Program tuition and fees do not cover any travel or accommodation expenses, so students traveling to the Austin area for on-campus learning should include these expenses in their planning The program’s hybrid format provides students the opportunity to maintain full-time employment while completing the DNP program.
Financial Support
DNP students have several funding options available to help pay for their education, including federal financial aid, private education loans and/or veteran’s benefits.
DNP students needing financial assistance are eligible for the following aid:
Federal Financial Aid & Private Education Loan
Federal financial aid as well as private education loans. Private loans are available from various lending institutions (e.g. banks, credit unions, etc.). The university is prohibited by federal law from recommending any particular private loans to certificate program students, but we encourage you to shop competitively before choosing a particular private loan to help meet educational expenses. The interest rates on these loans vary, as do other terms and conditions. Click here for more information about loans.
Nurse Faculty Loan Program (NFLP)
Nurse Faculty Loan Program (NFLP) is a loan-cancellation program funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Bureau of Health Professions. This program allows nursing schools to provide financial loans to students enrolled in advanced degree nursing programs and who intend to teach in a nursing program after graduation. This is not a need-based loan program; however, students must complete a FAFSA. For more information, visit UT Financial and Administrative Services - Nursing Faculty Loan Services page.
DNP Program Scholarly Travel Funding
DNP Program Scholarly Travel Funding provides support for Option III DNP students to attend professional meetings at which they present an original poster or paper based on their work in the DNP program at The University of Texas.
DNP Project Award
DNP Project Award provides support for students in the implementation and dissemination of their DNP projects.
Veteran’s Education Benefits
The DNP program is eligible for use with GI Bill® education benefits, including the Post-9/11 GI Bill. To learn more about how veteran benefits can be used, contact UT Austin’s Veteran Certification Team. Please note, the DNP program is considered a non-formula-funded program and is, therefore, not eligible for Texas Hazelwood Act Exemptions.
Per the Department of Defense requirement for credit hour information, the per credit hour cost of the DNP program is approximately $667.
